Tribal One awarded Angostura Dam spillway concrete repair
Hot Springs, SD – Tribal One Construction announced today that the United States Bureau of Reclamation awarded the Company a Concrete Spillway Repair Project at the Angostura Dam. This 30- month, $10.4M, best value project to repair deteriorated concrete on the downstream face of this high hazard concrete gravity dam along with improvement and extension of the powerplant access road to facilitate construction and long-term maintenance access to the dams downstream face.
The Angostura Dam Concrete Repair Contract focuses on restoring structural integrity and extending the service life of the dam. This involves repairing or replacing deteriorated concrete, addressing surface cracks, spalling, and delamination to restore strength and stability. Additionally, the contract aims to control water seepage by sealing cracks, joints, and leakage points. Tribal One, along with our specialty trade partners will leverage our proven expertise in dam construction and project management to ensure these critical repairs are executed efficiently and effectively, reducing risks of failure to this high hazard dam structure.
Another key objective is to enhance the dam’s durability against environmental and operational stressors. Tribal One will utilize modern materials and advanced protective coatings to improve resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, chemical exposure, and erosion. The team’s commitment to quality and safety ensures the dam will meet or exceed federal safety standards, providing a safer and more reliable structure for surrounding communities, and ecosystems.
The contract emphasizes operational efficiency and environmental preservation, both of which are key focus areas for Tribal One. Repair activities will be meticulously planned to minimize disruptions to the dam’s operations, allowing it to continue serving its vital role in water management for critical irrigation needs and recreation on the impressive 4,407-acre Angostura Lake. Tribal One will implement sustainable practices to reduce environmental impacts, prioritizing the protection of aquatic and surrounding ecosystems.
“The Angostura Dam is vital to water management and supporting surrounding communities and ecosystems,” said Jerry Glickel, Preconstruction Manager at Tribal One. “This repair project is about ensuring the dam’s safety, reliability, and longevity.
