Tribal One completes U.S. Moorings upgrades for USACE Portland District

Tribal One Construction completed technology upgrades in seven buildings at a mooring facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Portland District.

The work was conducted at the U.S. Government Moorings located on the Willamette River north of Portland, Oregon, which the Corps began using in 1903 for centralized maintenance and supply. The site currently provides port, supply and repair services for the Portland District’s fleet of dredges, hydrosurvey vessels and other support vessels.

“Tribal One is proud of its ability to assist the Portland District in its effort to upgrade its infrastructure to meet the demands of a new generation of communications technology,” said Tribal One Development CEO Brady Scott. “Communities throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond depend on the Corps’ ability to maintain safe, navigable waterways and we are pleased to contribute to their mission.”

After successfully completing similar upgrades on two USACE-operated dredges, the Tribal One team took out the existing data cable infrastructure and installed new unshielded CAT6A ethernet cabling within the buildings and a new single-mode OS2 fiber optic cable backbone between the buildings.

“Our work at the Moorings contributes to a decade-long effort by the Corps to bring this facility to a higher standard of operation,” said Tribal One Construction Executive Erik Sell. “This is a hard-working facility that requires an equally hard-working and dependable communications infrastructure to keep operations flowing smoothly.”

In addition to the cabling, the Tribal One team also installed new main and intermediate distribution frames (MDF, IDF) and installed fiber and copper patch panels and wire management. All work was completed in compliance with USACE regulations for low voltage cabling.

Tribal One also provided as-built drawings and rack elevation diagrams of the completed work for future reference and maintenance.
