Tribal One improves bridge safety at Sumter National Forest

Bucks-Grave-Road-tribal1Visitors to Sumter National Forest in South Carolina will travel a little more safely thanks to emergency bridge repairs conducted by Tribal One Construction.

The U.S. Forest Service selected Tribal One to perform emergency repairs to a bridge carrying Bucks Grave Road over Clarks Creek. The $300,000 project prevents the bridge from failing after storm-swelled water flows weakened its supports.

“Our team was able to remove the failed portions of the bridge and stabilize the remaining structure to ensure safe travel,” said Project Manager Chris Carter.  “With the bridge secure, we were able to restore the roadways adjacent to the bridge and then take additional steps to secure the stream bank to prevent damage from future storms.”

Tribal One worked with long-time partner GeoStabilization International® to conduct the initial emergency repairs. Tribal One team members led the design and construction of the permanent improvements.

“This project demonstrates how Tribal One is positioned to respond quickly and effectively to emergency repairs,” Carter said. “It also is advantageous to have good teaming partners like GSI to ensure that the work will be done the right way.”
