Tribal One to create USDA housing inspection program

Tribal One will create a new system for inspecting multifamily housing units under a $1.6 million contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Under this award, Tribal One will also conduct inspections of at least 1,000 qualified multifamily units nationwide for the USDA’s Rural Housing Service Division.

“Tribal One has built considerable expertise in conducting housing and building inspections that focuses on structural safety and livability,” said Zachary Recine, the professional engineer managing the project. “Our team members understand what methods work best for each individual situation to ensure that buildings meet the standards required by government agencies, lending institutions and families living in those structures.”

To complete the project, Tribal One will develop inspection procedures using methods that have been verified in the field. These will be incorporated into the Multifamily Physical Inspection Pilot Program (MPIPP) and will be used to inspect housing throughout rural America. Tribal One will work with Building Inspection Services, Inc. (BISCO), to perform the inspections.

“The system in place now to conduct these inspections is outdated, so our team will develop new inspection protocols and then create training modules so that we can train inspectors prior to performing the inspections,” Recine said. “We will be using a standard form developed by the Mortgage Bankers Association and likely will modify the form once we begin the project and start receiving results from the inspections.

“This is a great opportunity to support the USDA’s Rural Housing Service by developing a platform that they can employ to successfully meet their responsibilities.”
