Tribal One to conduct HUD housing inspections

March 24, 2022Architecture & EngineeringConstruction

Tribal One will help ensure the safety and quality of public housing in 22 states under a contract awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Under this $1 million direct award Tribal One will provide Uniform Physical Conditions and Standards Inspection Services in three HUD regions encompassing the Mid-Atlantic, Mid-West and Mountain West states.

“This is a great opportunity for Tribal One to employ its facility engineering, assessment and inspection experience and expertise in support of HUD’s mission,” said Tribal One Project Manager Matt Greene. “At a time when affordable housing is scarce, securing the safety and livability of HUD’s public housing resources will be a real benefit for families throughout these regions.”

Tribal One will provide experienced, HUD-certified inspectors to conduct physical inspections of over 400 HUD housing units. Inspection standards address the site, building exteriors, utilities, dwelling units and common areas.

Tribal One will team with Building Inspection Services, Inc. (BISCO), a seasoned veteran of the property inspection industry, to complete the inspections.

Tribal One to upgrade Hatfield Federal Courthouse elevators

March 4, 2022Construction

Tribal One will upgrade nine elevators in the 16-story Hatfield Federal Courthouse in Portland, Oregon under a $6.8 million sole source award by the General Services Administration.

T1 Construction, LLC will team with RJS Construction, a local woman and Native American owned small business, to replace all nine elevators and to upgrade the electrical systems and the fire alarm and fire protections systems to increase safety at each elevator shaft and mechanical room.

According to Tribal One Construction Executive Erik Sell, this is not the first time the company has worked on courthouse elevators.

“Our Tribal One team was selected for this sole source award as a result of our successful upgrade of six elevators in the historic Byron White Federal Courthouse in Denver,” Sell said. “Joining with the team at RJS Construction, who have knowledge of the local construction environment and the Hatfield Courthouse, also played an important role in this award.”

Sell noted that the GSA incorporated Tribal One’s Value Engineering proposal into the final solicitation. That proposal decreased the expected maintenance required by the new system and increased its projected lifespan all while staying within the budget.

“Our biggest challenge will be completing the work while the Federal District Court remains active,” Sell said. “Our team is putting a great deal of effort into designing and installing sound mitigation systems around each of the 99 elevator doors to eliminate the noise for workers and court proceedings and to maintain public safety.”

Tribal One also will work with a local crane company to remove the old mechanisms from the 16th floor and lift new elevator machines onto the roof. The project is expected to take about 17 months to complete.

Army Corps selects Tribal One for two Pacific Northwest projects

December 7, 2021ConstructionTechnology

With its growing list of successfully completed projects and two new sole source awards, Tribal One businesses have become the ‘go-to’ firms for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) technology upgrades in the Pacific Northwest.

A sole source award to T1 Construction, LLC, by the USACE Seattle District will address security at the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Meanwhile, the USACE Portland District turned to Tribal One Technology, LLC, Tribal One’s newest SBA 8(a) participant, to upgrade services at their district headquarters.

“With our construction and technology companies actively participating in the 8(a) program, Tribal One offers a considerable range of sole source options for the Army Corps of Engineers throughout the Northwestern and South Pacific Divisions,” said Brady Scott, Tribal One Development general manager. “These options have value only because our team members have demonstrated that they can get the job done on time, on budget and meeting or exceeding the Army Corps’ high standards. We continually seek to earn our reputation as a reliable partner for sole source opportunities.”

In the Seattle District, Tribal One will help ensure security at the Ship Canal by upgrading software and hardware and configuring the physical access security system. The work will bring the facilities security system up to current Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS 201 V2). Security Install Solutions of Aurora, Colorado will team with Tribal One on the project.

For the Portland District, Tribal One will install video teleconference services and upgrade audio-visual systems in the Summit Conference Room of the district headquarters. The project is the first sole source award for Tribal One Technology since it entered the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program in June.

IES Communications, with operations in Tualatin and Hermiston, Oregon as well as Denver, Colorado, will team with Tribal One on the project.

Fort Jackson award a first for Tribal One Charleston, S.C.

November 1, 2021Construction

Tribal One has begun work on a roof replacement project at the U.S. Army training center at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Tribal One (T1 Construction, LLC) was awarded a $1.7 million contract to remove and replace a metal roof on Building 2601. The award was the first construction contract for Tribal One’s Charleston, S.C. office since receiving ‘bona fide office’ approval in April 2021.

“Receiving an award after only three months of operation in South Carolina is a clear indication that our initial research was accurate and there is a need for a tribally owned, SBA 8(a) certified construction company in this region,” said Erik Sell, company vice president. “Tribal One has an impressive portfolio of work that demonstrates our capabilities in this industry sector, and we look forward to serving local agencies in this part of the country.

“We also were fortunate hiring Chris Carter to open our Charleston office,” Sell said. “Chris is a retired lieutenant colonel and has a deep knowledge of the area and strong relationships throughout the region.”

As a tribally owned, SBA 8(a) firm, Tribal One Construction may receive direct awards from federal agencies for up to $22 million for civilian agencies and up to $100 million for Defense Department agencies without written justification.

October 25, 2021Construction

Tribal One (T1 Construction, LLC) will lead a team to design and build a new Robotics Response Test Facility under a $7.3 million design-build award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Located on the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, Md., the project marks the first award for Tribal One’s newly opened Columbia, Md., office.

Tribal One will design and construct a new facility for testing drones and other robotic devices. It will be built next to an existing facility where tests are conducted based on the requirements of end users such as search and rescue operations and bomb squads and commercial users. The scope of work includes facility, infrastructure, site work, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, fire protection, water, sewer, storm water, PEMB, data and security.

Implementing a variety of design principles, including Urban Design, will allow the new facility to conform to the prevalent character of the campus. By embracing sustainable design principles, the completed project will attain LEED Silver Certification at a minimum.

“This award marks the first opportunity for Tribal One to perform a start-to-finish design-build project and our first project for NIST,” said South Carolina Regional Director Chris Carter. “We have assembled an experienced and accomplished team to ensure this build will meet and exceed our new customer’s expectations.”

Partnering with Tribal One on the project are ATI, Inc., an architecture and engineering firm that worked on the original NIST robotics testing facility, and Harkins Builders, Inc., a full-service construction firm with extensive experience throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Both companies are headquartered in Columbia, Md.

Tribal One ensures air quality, COVID safety in Bureau of Indian Education schools

October 12, 2021Construction

Tribal One Construction team members are finishing critical assessments of the ventilation systems in schools operated or overseen by the federal Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) in 12 states.

T1 Construction, LLC received five of the seven regional awards to perform site surveys and ventilation assessments required by the BIE prior to reopening the schools to students. All in-person instruction at the schools ended in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team members are evaluating the operation of current building ventilation systems, performing preventive maintenance and recommending system modifications to reduce the risk of indoor COVID-19 transmission. Assessment are being conducted in all classrooms and other student-occupied areas at 49 schools in the five regions.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Office of Facilities, Property and Safety Management awarded the $2.5 million contract to Tribal One in fulfillment of its responsibility to administer safe schools and workplaces.

“This effort leverages Tribal One’s technical expertise to rapidly reduce risk and improve quality of life for hundreds of students and faculty members,” said Tribal One Project Manager, Matt Greene. “This is one way we can put our commitment to our nation’s tribal communities into action.”
