Tribal One Broadband Technologies, LLC was awarded this project in 2018 in order to upgrade the aging lighting system at Plant 42. Plant 42, which is used by Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, NASA and the USAF, was required to be operational on at least one runway for the duration of the project.

The scope of work was a complete replacement of the airfield lighting system including:

  • New Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) light systems at each end of both runways
  • Four new runway threshold lighting systems
  • New runway edge lighting on both runways
  • New runway lighted signage
  • All new wiring for airfield lighting and controls with new conduit as needed
  • Demolition of all existing wiring, transformers and switchgear
  • Installed new transformers and electrical vaults
  • All new switchgear for the airfield lighting
  • All new controls for the PAPI lighting systems and all airfield lighting
  • Airfield concrete and asphalt repairs and replacement
  • Full lighting system and controls commissioning
  • PAPI commissioning and performance verifications
  • Maintain full operation of one runway at a time for the duration of the project
