Spring Creek Bridges
Tribal One replaced two bridges over the Spring Creek on National Forest System Road 7744 on the Gunnison Ranger District of the Gunnison National Forest, in Gunnison County, Colorado. The bridges are located east of Highway 135 on Forest Route 7744 at milepost 5.694 and 6.158. Spring Creek #3 is a single span, single lane, prestressed concrete bridge. Spring Creek #4 is a three-span, single lane, steel girder bridge. Project included removing and disposing of the existing bridges. Design of this project was divided into Phase 1 – Site Investigation and Hydraulic Analysis and Phase 2 – the Final Design and Contract Preparation. Phase 3 is replacement of the bridges.
Project Scope
- Borings at each bridge for hydraulic analysis
- Environmental analysis for each location
- Surface water sampling from the river for corrosion testing
- Design of both bridges
- Demolition and disposal of each bridge
- Installation of now bridges
Project Success
Tribal One replaced the aging bridges with new bridges designed to pass a 95-year flood event with 30-50% debris blockage and 3’ freeboard.
