Grand Lake Entrance – Rocky Mountain National Park
Tribal 1 was contracted to rebuild the park entrance office that was destroyed in a 2020 wildfire. Work commenced in Fall 2023 and, after a Winter Exclusion, and resumed in April 2024. Work was completed in November 2024. Prior to the reconstruction of the new office building by the entrance, NPS staff had been limited to the use of a temporary office trailer onsite. The replacement of their building enables NPS to support the full staffing of all kiosks at the entrance and reduces wait times for tourists to enter Rocky Mountain National Park.
Project Scope
The project consisted of concrete demolition and new construction, upgrades and repairs to the existing kiosks and entrance lanes, as well as other exterior site improvements. The new office building featured a wood-framed structure with concrete foundations, fiber cement siding, stone veneer, aluminum-clad wood windows, and a metal roof. The Tribal One team also performed selective pavement replacement and installed new curbs and gutters to enhance safety and accessibility. Additionally, two existing kiosks were upgraded, including exterior painting to protect them from the elements.
Project Successes
- Tribal 1 coordinated with NPS for traffic control requirements for lane closures affecting the park entrance pay lanes.
- In order to expedite the project, Tribal 1 pushed forward with earthwork and the concrete foundation in Fall 2023 to avoid issues with frozen ground upon our Spring mobilization.
